Quantum Studio update – Caroline Delétoille

From lab notes to luminous canvases, Caroline Delétoille turns her QMI residency into a vibrant meditation on the quantum world.

This past spring, artist Caroline Delétoille premiered her project Sensation Quantique in France—a playful exploration of quantum physics through painting, photography, and installation. A significant part of the work was developed during her one-month residency here at QMI, with Quantum Studio, where conversations with researchers and time spent in the labs shaped her artistic approach. From hand-painted electron clouds on thermal blankets to whimsical reflections on lab coffee rituals, Caroline’s pieces attempt to translate the culture and complexity of quantum science into sensory (and sometimes humorous) experiences. Several of the materials she used—including scribbled lab notes, sample handling tools, old coffee cards, and video clips—came directly from her time here. You can learn more about the exhibition on the official Sensation Quantique website.

Scenes from Sensation Quantique: Caroline Delétoille’s exhibition featured hand-painted electron clouds on shimmering thermal blankets, immersive installations that invite viewers into speculative lab spaces, abstract interpretations of particle interactions, and playful nods to scientific routines—like the daily coffee break. Many of these works were shaped by her month-long residency at QMI.
